The Car and messing around with Maya Car shader

I'm not as big a fan of the bright colouring as it stands, I'd like to make the environment more stylised than what a realistic (as far as I can make it) looking car would allow. I'll be looking at materials and ways to improve the car in relation to the scene.

The Car: After 2 Hours

I started the car today, surprised to see that after 2 hours of modelling in the lab it does actually look like a car.

I'll be creating the accents and wheels as seperate objects and combining them all together for Game use, I'll continue the body until I'm comfortable with it.

About the Buick 8

I believe the car in the book is fictional, Buick did indeed make a Buick Eight, but the difference in the numerical name is enough to warrant that there is a difference. This could be down to not wanting to engage with Buick over any kind of legalities. In the novel, the car is described as being similar to a Buick Roadmaster. Seeing as the 1951 Buick Eight has a strong resemblance to the 1957 Buick Roadmaster I'll wager that fictional or no, it is a Buick Eight in the book.

1957 Buick Roadmaster

1951 Buick Eight

I'm not sure whether or not I'll be modelling the whole car yet, in the novel the car is left in Tarpaulin for much of its life, so I could go for that easier route. Ideally I would like both so that I could reveal the Buick Eight from under the tarp at the end of the level.

The Book

I have decided to base my Spacial Constructs environment around Stephen King's "From a Buick 8"

The book is a lesser known novel published September 24th, 2002 which follows the members of Troop D, who are part of the Western Pennsylvania State Police. The car was left by a gas station several years before and becomes the subject of the book when Ned Wilcox, following the death of his Troop D father, visits the barracks to talk to the Officers there. The book is the second novel about a haunted car after the much more famous "Christine".
